Philipsburg – In celebration of Constitution Day, and in an effort to increase awareness and understanding of good governance and propriety, the High Councils of State of Sint Maarten (Council of Advice, General Audit Chamber and Ombudsman) will be hosting an event entitled: ‘Information Village’.
Integrity
“Our society is made up of morals and values. One important result of morals and values is integrity. Without morals and values there can be no integrity. The word integrity is much used in our society of late. That is understandable, because integrity is one of the main building blocks of a well-functioning democracy”, according to the organizers.
Public Sector Interaction
The “Information Village” will give the public an opportunity to interact with the public sector. On Friday, October 16th, 2015, from 2 pm to 8 pm, the Festival Village will be transformed into an “Information Village” where besides the High Councils of State, individual ministries and advisory bodies, will receive the public at their individual booths. The intention is to provide an environment for the individual ministries and institutions to share information with the general public.
This “Information Village” is an opportunity for citizens and residents of Sint Maarten to meet with different facets of the public sector to receive information about good governance as well as discuss their rights and responsibilities as citizens. For their part, the public sector representatives welcome feedback from the general public.
Recognizing the importance of the youth in the future of Sint Maarten, the High Councils of State have invited the island’s high school students so as to provide them with an opportunity to learn more about government, and possibly prepare them to play a role in our country’s future.
The High Councils of State are convinced that without integrity, corruption can take hold in a community. Every member of society must equip themselves to fight against corruption and bring about social change.
Dr. Terrence Farrell
As part of the event, the organizers have invited a renowned speaker Dr. Terrence Farrell from Trinidad & Tobago. Dr. Farrell will speak on the topic of “Morality, Integrity & Corruption” at 6:30 pm.
