Ombudsman holds Open House

PHILIPSBURG……….The Ombudsman listens, investigates and recommends government to act on the concerns of the people.

In continuation of the  PR Campaign which started last year, the Ombudsman is organizing an Open  House on Thursday January 29 at the Bureau.  The general public is invited to visit the Ombudsman at E.C. Richardson Street no. 13, Philipsburg, between the hours of 10:00 a.m straight through to 3:00 p.m.

Purpose of the Open House

The purpose of the Open House is to continue to bring awareness to the Ombudsman Institution, inform the public of the role of the Ombudsman and introduce the staff of the Bureau, which supports the Ombudsman.

The core task of the Ombudsman as regulated in our Constitution, is to investigate complaints against the conduct of government bodies filed by citizens, or  initiated by the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman does not only investigate government departments, but also government entities with public authority. Filing a complaint with the Ombudsman is free of charge.

The Ombudsman is also the guardian of the Constitution, and reviews new laws to make sure that they are not  in conflict with the Constitution.

The Ombudsman protects the rights of the people in relation to government.  The Ombudsman is impartial and defends the rights of the people in general.
Based on the conclusion of the investigation the Ombudsman makes recommendations to government to improve the services to the people, and monitors the implementation of these recommendations.

This Open House is organized for the people to learn more about the Institution. Every hour beginning at 10:00 a.m through to 3:00 p.m. the public will get a tour of the Bureau and a short presentation by the Ombudsman. The last tour will start at 3:00 p.m.
