Ombudsmen of the Kingdom facilitate civil servants workshops on June 27-28

Philipsburg, On June 27 and 28, 2016 the Ombudsman, Dr. Nilda Arduin and her colleagues from Curaçao and the Netherlands will be facilitating workshops for the civil servants on Sint Maarten.

Follow-Up

As a follow-up to agreements made last year in Aruba to meet yearly to discuss matters of mutual interest and concerns, the first formal annual meeting of the National Ombudsmen of the Dutch Kingdom will be held on Sint Maarten in the period of June 27-29, 2016. With the focus of Dr. Arduin in 2016 on the constant element in government, the civil service core, the presence of the Ombudsmen of Curaçao and the Netherlands on Sint Maarten will be utilized to organize sessions for civil servants and the other High Councils of State.

Topics Covered

The topics that will be covered by the Ombudsmen are: Politics and Administration, Internal Complaint handling and Understanding Propriety / Standards of Proper Conduct. The selection of topics for the sessions / workshops are in keeping with the Ombudsman’s theme for this year “Gearing towards excellence”. In particular, Secretaries General, department and sector heads, policy makers and civil servants who deal with the public have been invited to participate in the sessions.

On June 28 a session with the other High Councils of State will be organized as well. For this event, the National Ombudsman of the Netherlands, Mr. Reinier van Zutphen will speak on the topic: “The role of the Ombudsman in a democracy and its relation to other bodies of the state”.

Hosting Workshops

Dr. Arduin and the Ombudsman team are looking forward to hosting the workshops and expect full cooperation and maximum participation from all Ministries.
